Service Overview
Building a new Electrostatic Protected Area or retrofitting an existing production space is a complex, multi-system challenge. Getting it wrong — selecting the wrong flooring type, under-specifying the grounding network, or positioning ionisers incorrectly — results in an EPA that fails compliance testing and costs far more to remediate than it would have cost to design correctly in the first place.
Propack's EPA Infrastructure Design service takes responsibility for the complete design package — from initial site survey and process risk assessment through to a detailed design specification, product selection, installation supervision, and post-installation compliance testing. We combine 24+ years of EPA design experience with our own product knowledge to deliver a single-source turnkey EPA solution.
Design Service Scope
Site Survey & Risk Assessment
On-site survey of the proposed EPA area — substrate assessment, existing grounding infrastructure, environment conditions, process workflow analysis, and ESDS component sensitivity review.
Flooring System Design
Selection and specification of the optimal ESD flooring system (epoxy, PVC tiles, conductive carpet) based on substrate condition, traffic type, chemical exposure, and budget. Full installation specification document.
Grounding Architecture
Design of the common bonding network — grounding bus bar layout, ground cord routing, connection to building earth, resistance budget calculation, and specification of all bonding accessories.
Workstation Layout & Specification
ESD workbench, chair, mat, wrist strap point, ioniser, and tool specification for each workstation type. Layout drawings showing equipment positions and cable routing.
Ionisation Strategy
Identification of areas requiring supplementary ionisation (inside enclosures, wave solder exit, conveyor lines). Selection and positioning of benchtop, overhead, blower, and room ionisers for effective coverage.
Entry Control Design
Design of EPA entry control system — wrist strap and footwear tester selection and positioning, signage specification, garment requirements, and visitor management procedure.
Design & Build Process
- 1
Site Survey
On-site visit to survey the proposed EPA area — dimensions, substrate, environment, process flow, and existing infrastructure. Photography and measurements taken for design input.
- 2
Design Package Development
Full EPA design package produced: flooring specification, grounding layout drawing, workstation specification sheets, ionisation plan, entry control design, and Bill of Materials with indicative costs.
- 3
Design Review & Approval
Design review meeting (on-site or virtual) to walk through the design package. Amendments incorporated and final design approved before procurement and installation commencement.
- 4
Supply & Installation
Propack supplies all specified ESD products and manages or supervises installation by qualified installers. Project managed against a detailed programme to minimise production downtime.
- 5
Commissioning Testing & Handover
Full resistance testing of all installed elements. Test Report issued. ESD Control Plan document updated. Operator and ESD coordinator training conducted. Formal handover to your ESD Programme Manager.
